Kakunodate Samurai District (Semboku)

Location Omotemachi to Higashi-shorakucho, Kakunodate, Semboku, Akita
Features A symbol of Kakunodate, often called the "Little Kyoto of Michinoku." About 400 weeping cherry trees cascade over the black wooden fences of historic samurai residences. Features Selected as one of the "Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan," this park was created to commemorate the accession of Emperor Taisho. Around 2,000 trees surround the pond with Mt. Mato in the background. It is also famous for unique events like the "Tarai-kogi" (tub rowing) competition.
