Asuwa River Cherry Tree Row (Fukui City)

Location Tsukumo / Saiwai-bashi area, Fukui City, Fukui
Features One of the "Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan" and one of the largest riverbank rows in the country. Approximately 600 Yoshino trees bloom along a 2.2 km stretch of the Asuwa River embankment. The "cherry blossom tunnel" between Kidabashi and Saiwai-bashi is particularly voluminous, and the night-time illumination offers a mystical waterside view.

Asuwayama Park (Fukui City)

Location Yamaoku-cho / Asuwayama-cho, Fukui City, Fukui
Features Selected as one of the "Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan." About 3,500 trees bloom across the entire hill, which stands 116m tall and overlooks the city. The weeping cherry tree at Asuwa Shrine, estimated to be 370 years old, is a famous highlight. With a zoo and tea houses on-site, it is a perfect place for a relaxed day trip.

Maruoka Castle (Kasumiga-jo Park)

Location 1-59 Kasumi-cho, Maruoka-cho, Sakai City, Fukui
Features One of the twelve remaining original castle towers in Japan and a "Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spot." About 400 Yoshino trees surround the tower, which retains one of the oldest architectural styles in the country. It is also known as "Kasumiga-jo" (Mist Castle) because the castle appears to float in a mist of cherry blossoms when in full bloom.

Nishiyama Park (Sabae)

Location 3-7-20 Sakura-machi, Sabae City, Fukui
Features While famous for its azaleas, this park is also home to about 1,000 cherry trees. The observatory offers a panoramic view of Sabae City, and on clear days, the distant Hakusan Mountain Range is visible. It is a popular family destination featuring a Japanese garden and the Nishiyama Zoo, home to red pandas.

Kanegasaki-gu Shrine (Tsuruga)

Location 1-1 Kanegasaki-cho, Tsuruga City, Fukui
Features Overlooking Tsuruga Bay, this shrine features about 1,000 Yoshino trees. It is famous for the "Hana-kae Matsuri" (Flower Exchange Festival), based on a romantic legend where people exchange cherry twigs to express their feelings. The contrast between the blue sea and the blossoms is exceptionally beautiful.

Kuzuryu River Embankment

Location Sakai City and Eiheiji Town area, Fukui
Features A long row of cherry trees along the Kuzuryu River, Fukui's largest river. Stretching for several kilometers, the scene offers a sense of freedom and openness. It is a hidden gem where you can enjoy dynamic spring scenery with snow-capped mountains in the background.

Echizen Togei Village Park

Location 120-1 Ozawara, Echizen-cho, Nyu District, Fukui
Features Located in the heart of the Echizen pottery village, this vast park features about 1,000 cherry trees scattered among art installations, including monuments by Taro Okamoto. Visitors can enjoy the unique combination of art and sakura on the spacious lawn, perhaps alongside a pottery-making experience.

Echizen Ono Castle (Ono City)

Location 3-109 Shiro-machi, Ono City, Fukui
Features Famous as the "Castle in the Sky." About 300 cherry trees bloom around the castle tower atop Mt. Kameyama. While the view looking up from the foot of the hill is lovely, the view of the historic townscape through the blossoms from the castle path is truly special. Visiting during the local "Shichiken Morning Market" is highly recommended.

Murasaki Shikibu Park (Echizen City)

Location 369 Higashisenfuku-cho, Echizen City, Fukui
Features A garden built in the Shinden-zukuri architectural style of the Heian period to commemorate the only place Murasaki Shikibu lived outside Kyoto. The gold statue of the author set against weeping cherry trees and a vermilion bridge evokes the elegance of noble culture. It is a graceful garden where history and spring beauty meet.

Kasumiga-jo Park (Sakai City)

Location 1 Kasumi-cho, Maruoka-cho, Sakai City, Fukui
Features Developed as a historical park around Maruoka Castle, featuring beautiful Japanese gardens and open spaces. The reflection of Yoshino trees on the moat and the sight of the castle associated with Shibata Katsutoyo seen through the blossoms make this one of the premier photo spots in Fukui.
